Healing Palsy
The story of the man Healed of Palsy is the fourth miracle in craniological order of the Bible. Told within the four Apostles books of the New Testament when Jesus lived. The story can be found in Mark, Mathew and Luke. Did Jesus cure a man with palsy as stated in the Bible? The answer is a definite yes. However, interpretation just like the different apostles and books of the Bible, are used to both capture the attention of the reader, while also revealing the moral of a story at the same time. A different point of view can be very helpful when deciding what someone is saying. Memory and interpretation can change slightly. Ones demeanor and capabilities can change the perspective of a story. This is why we have several jurors in a trial as well. To determine to the best of our abilities, we use this method. Was Jesus, aware of this? Is that why he chose to have twelve Apostles?
While some people believe, that Jesus took a literal man with a form of physical palsy. Mental palsy is just as real and some people need a more literal interpretation. Thank God, Jesus was sent to relay this message to us. Jesus uses words, and chose people to tell us what he said. When they relay this, it speaks to the heart and minds of us all. Still, some are not ready to hear the word. This is why we must give our Testimony. Others may have struggled with the same issues. Losing Faith Finding God is here to guide those who do not relate with what others believe Jesus did. It is ok to believe in another view and our duty to share it. Once we do this, as the creation story teaches, and God tells us. We must bring these ideas forward to be challenged, weighed, and measured in order to grow. We come together in good Faith to talk about the Good news that is the Gospel.
The following is the text from Mark Mathew and Luke with some words defined. After, there is a Revelation of Interpretation that you can chew over and digest as the reader. Finally, our You-Video is available for the visual learner. God Bless, we will see you in the Kingdom of Heaven.
Biblical Story of the man Healed of Palsy
Mark KJV
1. And again he entered into Capernaum [JW1] after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house[JW2] .
2. And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.
3. And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy[JW3] , which was borne of four.
4. And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press[JW4] , they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed [JW5] wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
5. When Jesus [JW6] saw their faith[JW7] , he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
6. But there were certain of the scribes [JW8] sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7. Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies[JW9] ? who can forgive sins but God only?
8. And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9. Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
11. I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Mathew KJV
1. And he entered into a ship[JW10] , and passed over, and came into his own city.
2. And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
3. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth.
4. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
5. For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?
6. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.
7. And he arose, and departed to his house.
8. But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men.
Luke KJV
16. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness[JW11] , and prayed[JW12] .
17. And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18. And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.[JW13]
19. And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling [JW14] with his couch [JW15] into the midst before Jesus.
20. And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22. But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23. Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25. And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange [JW16] things to day.
Losing Faith Finding God
Revelation of Interpretation
These text show Jesus had come to a place named repentance and he was in his house. Jesus, through the tribulations of the wilderness, arrives at his home by praying. The praying focused Jesus to the task, which was to minister to the people. When Jesus settled into his House, many come to see what he is teaching. After all, this is the place of repentance. The crowd created His own city as it says in Mathew.
So why did they lower the man trough the roof?
The scribes and doctors could not help a man because they were pressing him. They let him down. First by being unable to help. Did they believe Jesus could not help him? Notice they went on top of the roof? Anytime Jesus is teaching, he does so from a high place. Does this represent that the scribes and those that pressed him believed they knew or where better than Jesus? The Bible dictates this to be true on many occasions. What did they think would happen if they brought him to Jesus? One thing is certain. They had to deliver the man to Jesus and thought they held the law in higher regard. This would be the reason he was lowered into Jesus home.
Jesus shows the man who cannot move and was paralyzed with emotion and involuntary tremors from miss information along with sins of the past he believed could not be forgiven. Jesus gets to the point. Talking to the man in a couched position, teaching the man, rather than feeling like you must fix the sins of the past, focus on the now. Start your journey to a new life right now. Get up, take up you bed, of new morality and understanding and walk the walk. All journeys start with a single step. The man goes into his own house, now the house of Jesus. A new place to live that is now secure. The people are amazed at this new way of teaching. It is strange to them.
The difference in the method is the way. Some religions state that you must do a work of repentance for what is deemed as an evil or immoral deed. What Jesus shows, is his father has pointed out the law. It is already told, we shall not break HIS commandments. Doing an act to be forgiven will not make up for past transgressions. In order to truly change we must DO as we are commanded, NOW. You are forgiven! You can walk. Your salvation lies in the acceptance that Jesus is the path to God. The truth will set you free. The way the truth the life. Remember, actions speak louder than words. Do not say what you will do. Do what GOD has said.
